Peppy, Some of the misunderstanding of the assault weapon versus a weapon of any kind. is the tool or weapon. Where guns are concerned assault weapons all weapons are for assault depending on how they are used. from a single shot pellet pistol or rifle to , which is a .177 caliber, but if you put a front handle to hold on to it would then be classified as an assault rifle or gun. A .458 lott elephant gun is a much larger and more power, but if it doesn't have a front handle style grip it wouldn't qualify as an assault gun. The left considers all guns as assault weapons only don't want to admit it. To sad for those that never grew up where there are trees and pasture and creeks, instead of concrete, and reading about gang shootings every morning. They also talk about automatic rifles. Fully automatic is the key here, they were banned ,I believe in the 1930's, and to own one you have to have approval from the gov't and be licensed. If you have any other concerns, yes I am a law abiding 66 year old Viet Nam vet who clings to his guns and still believes in GOD WE TRUST, not the idiots in big gov't. Thank you for you time.

With regards to your comments about the assault weapons ban. It bans SINGLE shot rifles that are designed to look like the fully automatic version of those rifle. A M-16 is the fully automatic military rifle. An AR-15 is the single shot civilian version of that rifle. One has to apply for a special license from the federal government to purchase or own a fully automatic rifle. The problem is that the term assault rifle is being thrown around and people believe that these guns are the same thing that military forces carry but are not. They have been made to look like the military version without the fully automatic capabilities of said rifles.

I saw your comment regarding the assault weapons poll.

I'd like to know who goes hunting with a full auto machine gun. Because that is what an assault rifle is. My AR-15 shoots one bullet at a time, just like a Ruger 10/22 or M1 Garand. Perhaps instead of banning guns, we should make crimes illegal? Certainly if there are laws saying you cannot shoot someone just because you feel like it, then nobody would do it, right?

We don't ban cars because cars kill people when used incorrectly...
